OAK LAWN BOYS BOWLER DELL EARNS ‘ATHLETE OF THE MONTH’ HONORS

Charlie Dell was a picture of consistency for the month of December on the lanes for the Oak Lawn Community High School boys bowling team. He won Top 5 individual medals at three different invitationals, he rolled his career-best 289, and he was the South Suburban Conference Red Individual Champion. All this helped him to earn Oak Lawn’s Athlete of the Month honor.

In all, he bowled 30 games during December and averaged 213 pins a game, bowling better than 230 nine times. He was a Top-5 finisher at the TF North Invite, the Tinley Park Invitational, and the Brother Rice Invite. He also bowled a 289 with 10 strikes in a row for a personal best.

“Charlie was on fire the entire month,” head coach Kevin Walery said. “The best part is that he is only a sophomore. Keep it up, Charlie.”

The boys bowling team went on to win the Illinois High School Association Regional Championship after winning the SSC Red title. Then, the team bowled well enough at the IHSA Sectional to advance to the State Finals this weekend.
