Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 Superintendent Dr. Shahe Bagdasarian announced an administrative restructure within the Oak Lawn D229 school district that will go into effect on July 1, 2024. This restructure is aimed at optimizing operational efficiency, enhancing multiple tiers of communication, and addressing specific needs within the school district that will ultimately benefit both students and staff.
Dr. Jeana Lietz, who is the current OLCHS Principal, will move from her current position to her new role as the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Development. As Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Development, Dr. Lietz will bring a wealth of experience and collaborative spirit to oversee and enhance the district's human resources department. Dr. Bagdasarian mentioned that “Her leadership will be instrumental in ensuring that we continue to attract, develop, and retain top talent while fostering a positive and inclusive work environment for all staff members.”
Oak Lawn Community High School is also proud to announce the promotion of Assistant Principal for Instruction, Dr. Lauren May, who will assume the Principal role on July 1, 2024. She has served the Oak Lawn Community in a variety of roles over the past 24 years.
In her new position as Principal, Dr. May will continue to uphold Oak Lawn High School’s tradition of academic excellence, while also implementing innovative strategies to enhance student achievement and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Dr. May shared “My focus will be on supporting our students and staff in meeting the high expectations of our community through academics, early college and career experiences, and involvement in activities and athletics.”
Having served in her role as Assistant Principal at OLCHS since 2016, Dr. May has consistently exhibited her passion for education, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring the academic success of every student. Dr. Bagdasarian asserted that “She brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of our school community's needs to her new role.”
“I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead our school. OLCHS is my second home, and I look forward to building on my existing relationships as well as forming new bonds with our school-community.” said May.
Dr. May earned her doctorate, masters and undergraduate degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Dr. May also earned a master's degree from the University of Chicago and also is a Certified School Business Official (CSBO).
Mr. Michael Sunquist will shift from his current position as the Director of Student Services to the Assistant Principal of Student Services. In his new role, he will take on additional building responsibilities.
Mr. Sunquist has been an integral part of Oak Lawn’s leadership team, demonstrating exemplary dedication, innovative thinking, and a deep commitment to the success and well-being of our students and staff. “With his proven track record of leadership and his unwavering dedication to our District’s values, he is exceptionally qualified to take over as the Assistant Principal for Student Services,” noted Bagdasarian.
Mr. Marcus Wargin will remain in his current position as Oak Lawn’s Assistant Principal for Operations and Student Activities.
