The College Board announced that Oak Lawn Community High School has been named to the 2023-24 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll.
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
Oak Lawn Community High School is being further recognized with the AP Access Award, which honors schools that encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses. The percentage of students in at least one of these categories who took at least one AP Exam before graduation is proportional to or above your school's student population, demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework. Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. And even for those who don't earn college credit, advanced coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.
Principal Lauren May said, “The AP Program has been a particular point of pride for us in recent years. We have worked diligently to provide support and resources to our AP teachers to both expand AP opportunities, courses, and access for students but to also ensure that those students receive college-level learning right here in our high school classrooms.”
