CASEY QUALIFIES FOR SECTIONAL, LEADS OAK LAWN GIRLS GOLF

They started it all, and now they are finishing it all. Six golfers who helped start the first official Illinois High School Association girls golf team at Oak Lawn Community High School back when they were freshmen are now finishing up their high school golf careers with style.

Senior Katie Casey has been the leader for the team all season long and recently continued to lead the Spartans as she qualified for the IHSA Sectional meet by finishing in the Top 10 at the regional. Casey also finished ninth at the South Suburban Conference Red meet to lead the Spartans.

However, the entire Oak Lawn team had an excellent year as they went 10-3 overall and 10-2 in conference. Casey is joined by fellow seniors Teagan Krzystof, Danielle Dempsey, Kasey Jackson, Annie McGrath, and Jacky Canales. This is a special group of pioneers in the eyes of head coach Kate Mellone.

“The girls had a great season this year,” Mellone said. “Varsity consisted of the six seniors that started their freshman year with me for the first official OLCHS girls golf team.”

On the junior varsity level, the Spartans took second place as a team at the SSC Red meet. Clark Zylius finished fourth while Riley Krzystof and Zoe Lepe finished fifth.
