LEON SETS STANDARD FOR EXCELLENCE WITH OAK LAWN CROSS COUNTRY

As a four-year Illinois High School Association Sectional qualifier, a three-time All-South Suburban Conference runner, and a three-year team captain, senior Andrew Leon is the true leader for the Oak Lawn Community High School boys cross country team.

With a spectacular final month of the season in which he placed 10th at the conference meet, took 30th out of 100 runners at the IHSA Regional, and broke the 16-minute mark at 15:58 on the three-mile course in the IHSA Sectional meet, Leon earned honors as Athlete of the Month for October at OLCHS.

“Andrew has led the cross country team as our number-one runner and three-year captain all season,” head coach Marty Chappetto said. “He averaged 5:19 per mile at the sectional. That was at the hardest sectional in the state for cross country at the Class 3A Hinsdale Sectional. Andrew has always been a team-first runner setting new standards of expectations for the team. His leadership will be missed, but he has set an example for the team as a whole.”
