Stuff You Need to Know

The Varsity Scholastic Bowl Team is off to a great start with wins over TF North and Oak Forest. The team was led in tossup scoring by Shawn Perry with 6, Allie Gabriel with 4, and Omar Ali and Destiny Nasario each had 1. Under Coach Perras, the JV also performed well and won a match over Tinley Park. The team was led in scoring tossups by Evangelina Angulo with 5, Sara Alorani with 3, Cassidy Perry with 2, Yusr Elameer with 2, Kiara Lara with 1 and Mariam Hrezi with 1.

Do you love dancing to Latin music? OLAS is looking for talented dancers like YOU! We’re gearing up to practice dance routines for our next performance during Global Society Week, and we’d love for you to join us. If you’re interested, come to our practices every Tuesday after school in room 356 with Ms. Torres. Let’s bring the energy, have fun, and make this performance unforgettable!

Get ready for the most exciting night of the year! On February 15th, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, join us for the Baile de Corazon 2025 right here at our school. It’s going to be a night filled with music, fun, and the hottest Latin beats to keep you dancing all night long! Tickets will go on sale soon for just $15 per person, so stay tuned for the release date.

Don’t miss out! Bring your friends, show off your best dance moves, and get ready for an unforgettable experience. See you there! 

Free event! Yemeni Culture Night will be this Friday January 17th in the PAC from 5:15 – 7:30PM. Come learn and celebrate this amazing culture! Activities include interactive stations, food, Henna, Kahoot, and more! Hope to see you there! Have questions, email Mrs. Elmasry at [email protected]

Ventra cards can be renewed for the 2024-25 school year and new Ventra cards can be purchased for $2.00 in the Business Office, Room 123.  If you’ve already purchased a card online from the OLCHS Webstore, please pick it up in the Business Office. Business Office hours are 7:30am – 3:30pm. Plan accordingly! You will not be excused from class to renew or purchase a card.

The iTeam Genius Bar is open from 7:45 am - 3:00 pm. Students can come to the Media Center for support.

Club/Team News

E-Sports - The final round of tryouts for esports will be held in the media center TODAY Thursday after school. Spots are still open for Mario Kart, Rocket League, Madden and FIFA. If you are in a winter sport and cannot make it, stop by Coach Murray’s SP+ in Room 12 anytime to receive an informational flyer.

FSCAB - FSCAB's next meeting will be next Wednesday, January 22nd at 3pm in Student Services. If you cannot make this meeting, please contact Ms. Sears or Mrs. Madsen. 

OLAS - Are you looking for an awesome club to join this semester? OLAS is still accepting new members! Come be part of the fun and celebrate Hispanic/Latin culture with us.

Attention Juniors - Teachers are hosting special test prep sessions that are designed to prepare you for the ACT. The sessions will be every Monday and Friday and take place during Spartan Plus. Students can sign up for as many sessions as they need leading up to the Spring ACT test. For more information, email Dr. Coleman at [email protected].

Need service hours? There are some great opportunities coming up this week!

  • Help with concessions and crafts at the Lieb Elementary “Big & Little Snow-Ball” this Thursday from 5:30 – 7:30.
  • Cheer on the athletes at the Oak Lawn Special Rec basketball All-Star game and/or Special Olympics of Illinois tournament next Saturday 1/25 and Sunday 1/26

Boys’ Track & Field - The Indoor Season begins on Tuesday, January 21.  There will be a Team Meeting on Tuesday, January 21 in the Jr./Sr. Lounge right after school with practice to follow.  All athletes need to have a current physical on file and have registered to participate in practice.  Registration portal:

Girls’ Soccer - Girls Soccer pre-season conditioning and open gyms will begin this week. Our first is TODAY Thursday 1/16, in the Spartan Gym, from 5:45 – 7:15 and next week Tuesday 1/21, in gyms 10/101, from 5:45 – 7:15.
