WORD OF THE WEEK:
QUIXOTIC
quix·ot·ic (kwĭk-sŏt′ĭk)
PART OF SPEECH/DEFINITION:
ADJ.: 1. Idealistic without regard to practicality.
SENTENCE: The bane of academia of how to funnel knowledge into students was seemingly solved by the quixotic invention that demurely absolved educators the ignominious task of that responsibility.
Stuff You Need to Know
Good Tuesday morning. On Friday, we spoke about Kamala Harris, the first Black woman to run for president representing a major political party and the second Black senator in American history. But did you know that the very first Black woman to serve as a senator represented the state we live in? It’s true. Carol Moseley Braun was born in Chicago, Illinois and worked as an attorney. She challenged Richard Williamson for the Illinois senate seat in the 1992 election and won, making history as the first Black woman to serve as a senator from 1993 to 1998. Even though she ran for reelection, she would lose to Republican Peter Fitzgerald. Carol Moseley Braun can still be seen around her hometown of Chicago speaking at public events and fighting for the rights of people who need help in the community. This has been your Black History fact for February 18, 2025. Remember, Black History is American History.
