STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS - FEBRUARY 25, 2025

Stuff You Need to Know

Good Tuesday morning. Yesterday, we spoke about Thurgood Marshall, who was the first Black person to serve on the Supreme Court. Today, as we transition into Women’s History Month, we will talk about the first Black woman to serve as a Supreme Court Justice. In the year 2022, Ketanji Brown Jackson made history when she became the first Black woman to be confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice. Nominated by President Joseph R. Biden, Ketanji Brown Jackson would be confirmed by the United States Senate with a vote of 53-47 to replace retiring Justice Breyer. Brown Jackson grew up in Miami, Florida and would later attend Harvard University, one of the best universities in the country, graduating with honors. Her name, Ketanji Onyika, is from West Africa and means “Lovely One".” This has been your Black History fact for Feb 25, 2025. Remember, Black History is American History.
