With the season on the line at the Illinois High School Association Regional Championship game against highly-rated Kenwood Academy, senior Donte Montgomery laid it all on the line for Oak Lawn Community High School. He carried the hopes and dreams of Spartan fans everywhere on his back.
The guard simply refused to go down without a fight, and despite narrowly losing, Montgomery scored 42 points and left no doubt about his basketball talent and desire to win.
In fact, he was on fire for the entire month of February, averaging 27.5 points per game on 50-percent shooting. He also averaged 5.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 3.5 steals. As a result, Montgomery was named as the Athlete of the Month at OLCHS.
“Donte was on an absolute mission in February,” head coach Jason Rhodes said. “We ask our players to leave a legacy, and for Donte: mission accomplished.”
Montgomery also earned honors as the South Suburban Conference Red Player of the Year and finished his Oak Lawn career as the second leading scorer in school history with 1,400 points.
